Common Customer Questions About Water Heaters
Can water heaters be repaired?
We all know a leaking water heater can be a real headache. Most leaks stem from a faulty temperature & pressure relief valve, a nearby plumbing connection, or the tank itself. If it's the valve or a water connection in or out of the tank, these are repairable. If it's the tank itself, then the unit must be replaced as soon as possible.
What are the signs of a water heater going bad?
Sooner or later, you will see signs that suggest that your heater is on its way out, and you will need to start looking for water heater service. Generally, your heater will have a lifespan of about 10 years. If you see the following, it's time to think about a replacement.
- Your water heater breaks
- Your water heater is past its useful life.
- Rusty water or a rusty heater inlet valve.
- Noise is coming from the water heater.
- Water leaking from the water heater.
- And the most obvious, heater not heating.
How much does it cost to repair a tankless water heater?
The cost of repairing a tankless water heater varies depending on the extent of the damage and the cost of replacement parts. However, in general, repairs can range from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars.
Should I replace my 10-year-old water heater?
If your water tank is nearing 10 years or older, then it's time to start considering a replacement. Generally, with proper maintenance and care, a tank water heater should easily last up to 12 years. A tankless water heater can have a life expectancy of up to 20 years.

“I have a Mitsubishi 'split' heat/ AC unit that has been inconsistently working. I put out an 'ask' on a neighborhood FB page- McGinley was recommended. I called and was surprised when an AI assistant took the call and booked me an appointment. Apparently, AI isn't so smart b/c Ryan, from the office, called to tell me AI had overbooked me. We set up another appointment. Meantime, they had a cancellation and fit me in sooner. Ryan is very nice, helpful and aims to please his customers! He sent over Charlie Weiss, a very experienced technician who got right to work in the chilly, damp weather to diagnose my unit. Once done, we went indoors to discuss his findings and potential ways to move forward. He was very transparent with the pricing of each option. Charlie is very knowledgeable about his craft and explained things to my husband & I in very easy to understand language. He is also very personable, friendly and genuine. This company is very lucky to have Charlie represent them! The consultation fee was more than reasonable as was the 'maintenance fee' we would have paid had the unit warranted it. Charlie made it clear he couldn't do the maintenance as there are service issues with the unit that needs attention. We will be waiting to address these in the spring, as advised. I will use McGinley again and refer them out to folks needing these types of services.”Michele Guerin
